Course Overview: :

The workshop is a five day course covering DNS operations. The students will configure a Primary DNS Server, a Secondary DNS Server, a Zone Transfer between Primary and Secondary servers and BIND logging channels. They will use nslookup to visualize how DNS works and Identify DNS protocol fields in request and response using WireShark.

Networking concepts.
DNS concepts.
ccTLD, gTLD, and IDN concepts.
ICANN's role, and RIRs.

Day 2

Linux/Unix introduction.
DNS Delegation overview.
Lab configuration and ROOT/Recursive Servers configuration overview.

Day 3

Primary DNS configuration.
Secondary DNS configuration.

Day 4

Zone transfer types and configuration.
Logging channels configuration.
Troubleshooting Primary/Secondary zone transfer.

Day 5

Encryption overview.
DNSSEC overview.
TSIG Configuration.
Testing the zones and configuration with dig/nslookup.
Using WireShark to check how DNS protocol looks on the wire.
